About Course

The Grade 5 course emphasizes analytical reading and structured writing while advancing students’ math skills in fractions, decimals, and data interpretation. Science covers energy, ecosystems, genetics, and Earth’s systems. Students also explore history, economics, and digital literacy.

Objectives:

To develop skills in reading and analysing literary and informational texts.
To develop skills in writing narratives, essays, and reports.
To participate in discussions and presentations.
To deepen their understanding of grammar, sentence structure, and figurative language.
To focus on place value and multi-digit operations.
To develop understanding of fractions, decimals, and data interpretation.
To fluently perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
To understand measurement, geometry, and graphing.
To explore various topics such as energy, forces, ecosystems, human body systems, genetics, Earth’s systems, weather, and the solar system.
To gain an understanding of scientific principles and their real-world applications, focusing on observation and inquiry.
To understand various concepts of history and geography, economics, and culture.
To explore maps, regions, and historical events.
To learn about economic systems, the role of government, and the impact of cultural exchange.
To develop digital literacy in students.
To make students learn basic programming concepts.

By the end of grade 5, students would be able to:
Analyse literary and informational texts.
Identify themes, characters, settings, and plot.
Understand and use figurative language, and compare different texts.
Write structured narratives, explanatory essays, and reports with proper grammar, punctuation, and organization.
Participate actively in discussions, presentations, and storytelling.
Understand grammar, including sentence types, subject-verb agreement.
Understand place value up to 1,000,000.
Multiply and divide multi-digit numbers, solve word problems.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals accurately.
Understand measurement units, volume, and perimeter.
To gain knowledge of geometric shapes and the coordinate plane.
Collect and interpret data using bar graphs, line plots, and understanding basic statistics (mean, median, mode, and range).
Understand different forms of energy and forces and their applications in daily life.
Develop an understanding of ecosystems.
Understand the interdependence of organisms, and the flow of energy in food chains.
Understand major body systems and their roles.
Understand the basic genetics concepts such as heredity and mutations.
Gain knowledge of Earth’s major systems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere).
Understand the water cycle, along with weather and climate patterns.
Read and interpret maps and globes.
